Practice Logs for Band!

Hello Band Parents!
In an effort to better our music program Mr. Dair and I have come up with a new practice Log system for all students. This week your students will be receiving a practice log in which they will use to track their practice. We are encouraging each student to practice for 15min a day. The closer to this goal the better! Students will bring the logs to all lessons and ensembles where we will be able to check them. Parents should initial the logs after the kids practice. We will also be posting practicing requirements on the blog as well as through homework packets (I hate calling it homework but i cant think of a better name!!!)  Our goal is to better communicate with you the parents as to what you should be hearing from your students each week. The more support and encouragement to practice there is a home the better prepared and successful everyone will be in lessons and ensemble. Here are some great ways to help encourage your students to practice at home.

-Establish a routine! This can be done by having your student practice before or after dinner each night. (My mom used to set a time on the microwave for 15min... when it went off i knew food was coming... very pavlov of her!)

-At home concerts! Set up a few chairs in a family room each week and have your student perform a small piece that they have been working on. It helps them get comfortable performing in front of others!

-Jam sessions! Invite other students from class over for a Jam session, Music is supposed to be a social event if the kids get together and practice with their friends it is just the beginning of your own garage band!

These are just a few ways to really help encourage practicing without making it feel to clinical or boring. Unfortunately we all have to learn the basics before we begin to rock out or swing! This is a great way to make it fun. We cannot thank you all enough for your support of this program. Thanks again

Musically,

Mr. Myers and Mr. Dair!

P.S. I hate to sound like a broken record but we do still have a few students with outstanding tuition. We are trying to purchase new percussion equipment as well as some more music for the spring concert and we need everyones tuition.
